Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan’s 42nd Martyrdom Anniversary Today

 

Today August 6, 2026 is the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan. On this day 42 years ago, he sacrificed his life for the suffering humanity. His contribution as a Naval Chief and Minister for Communications and Agriculture is outstanding. This day will be observed with due solemnity in his Motherland as well as abroad showing respect to his glorious life based on the pillars of honesty, integrity, hard work, philanthropy and sacrifice.

The programmes will start with laying of floral wreaths at his Mazaar where holy Quran Khatam, Quran Khawani and special prayers will be held. His resting place is beside his favourite Naval Headquarters. His efforts to build Bangladesh Navy into a modern force will be written in golden letters in the pages of history. The sound of Azaan reaches his mazaar at every wakt of namaz from the mosque he helped to build for all naval personnel.

On the occasion of 6 August, the Bangladesh Navy will pay tribute by laying a floral wreath at his Mazaar in the morning. Food will also be distributed among underprivileged people. After the Zuhr prayer, special prayer and Doa Mahfils will be held at various Bangladesh Navy mosques in remembrance of the late Chief of Naval Staff and former Minister, Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan. All members of the Bangladesh Navy will offer special supplications, praying for the forgiveness and eternal peace of his departed soul.

Quran Katam, Quran Khawani, Doa Mahfil and special prayers will be held at Mahbub Bhaban. Begum Mahbub Ali Khan has requested all well wishers to pray for the deceased.

A Doa Mahfil and special prayers will also be held in SUROVI, a philanthropic organization for underprivileged children. ‍SUROVI was founded on 1 February 1979 by Begum Mahbub Ali Khan. She thinks she could establish SUROVI only because of her husband’s encouragement. Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan’s mother Zubaida Khatun was also a philanthropist. The values of community service that he learned in his childhood later inspired and motivated him to encourage SUROVI.

Quran Khatam, Doa Mahfil and special prayers will be held in different madrasah and orphanages in Dhaka- Jamia Qurbania Talimia women madrasah and orphanage, Baoniabad; Jamia Qurbania Arabia madrasah and orphanage, Bhashantek Cantonment; Sanmandi Khan Bari Daryl Quran Hafizia madrasah and orphanage Sonargaon Narayanganj.

Special prayers have been arranged in different mosques in Dhaka- 1) Baitul Mukarram National Mosque 2) Baitul Aman Jame Mosque, Dhanmondi 3) Taqwa Jame Mosque 4) Eid-Gah Jame Mosque 5) Azimpur Dayera Sharif Jame Mosque 6) Mohakhal DOHS Jame Mosque 7) Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque, Science Laboratory  8) Sobahanbag Jame Mosque 9) Baitul Aqsa Jame Mosque 10) Dormitory Jame Mosque  11) High Court Mazaar Mosque  12) Baitul Moalla Jame Mosque, Vashantek, Mirpur  13) Baitul Qurban Jame Mosque 14) Baitul Mumin Jame Mosque  15) Baitul Mumin Jame Mosque  16) Baitul Aman Central Jame Mosque  17) Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique(R) Jame Mosque  18) Baitul Aman Central Jame Mosque  19) Baitul Jannah Madani Jame Mosque  20) Baitul Karim Jame Mosque  21) Baitul Mumin Jame Mosque  22) Bauniabandh Bazar Jame Mosque.



In Sylhet, at the family residence in Birahimpur, a Doa Mahfil, remembrance meeting, and distribution of Tabarruk will be held after the Zuhr prayer, organized by the family. In addition, the family will organize a Doa Mahfil and distribute Tabarruk after the Zuhr prayer at the family-owned Jame Mosque and Latifia Hafezia Madrasa in Kolabagan, Sylhet. A special prayer (dua) gathering has been arranged at Jameya Mujahirus Sunnah Khararia Madrasa. Silam, South Surma, Sylhet. Furthermore, after the Asr prayer, the family will arrange a Khatm-e-Qur'an, a Doa Mahfil, and food distribution at the Dargah Mosque of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA). On the initiative of the people of Greater Sylhet, a Milad and Doa Mahfil will be held after the Zuhr prayer at the Dargah mosque of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA). Additionally, Doa Mahfil, and distribution of Shirni  will be held after the Asr prayer at Kadamtali Jame Mosque at South Surma. A Doa Mahfil after the Asr prayer will be held at Balaganj and Fenchuganj.

In Bogra a doa mahfil and Quran Khawani will be held after Asar prayers at the Baitul Rahman Central Jame mosque on behalf of the family. Quran Khatam and Quran Khawani will also be held after Zohr prayers at the Lathiganj orphanage for the blind.

In Jamalpur, a doa mahfil and special prayer after Asar prayer has been arranged at the Shah Kamal (R) Mazaar Mosque in Durmut.

In Saudi Arabia, Tawaf of the Holy Kaaba will be performed in the Holy City Makkah, and special prayers and Dua will be held in Madinah, praying for the Maghfirah of his departed soul. When performing Umrah he had the blessing of Allah SWT to take part in the washing of Holy Kaaba. It is a symbol of the immense Rahmat Allah SWT had bestowed upon his creation. The piece of glorious memory with which he washed the Holy Kaaba is still preserved to this day among the many cherished belongings associated with his memory.

In United Kingdom various programmes have been arranged on this day. It was in the United Kingdom that Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, a young, talented naval officer received advanced training and achieved distinction among the participating officers from all Commonwealth countries. The award was presented by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll. The Mahbub Ali khan Smriti Sangshad will hold Quran Khatam at 10:00am at the Bricklane Jame Mosque in London and after Zohr prayer, doa mahfil will be held. Special prayers and discussion on his glorious life and outstanding work will be arranged at Regent Lake Hall at 6.00 pm.

Programmes have also been organized in the United States of America to mark this day. A Doa Mahfil will be held at the Darul Hikmah Islamic Center in Virginia, Washington. A similar prayer gathering has also been organized at the Islamic Center in Jackson Heights, New York. In addition, a Doa Mahfil will be held after Maghrib prayers at the Bangladeshi Community Mosque in West Palm Beach, Florida.

In Malaysia, there will be a day-long Quran Khatam, special prayers and food distribution among orphans to mark the martyrdom anniversary. Various orphanages and madrasas, Madrasa Dato Keramat Kuala Lumpur, Madrasa Tahfiz Ampang Jaya, Ampang Tahfiz Al-Mustaqim Rawang, Surau An-Nur Juru Makraj, Madrasa Pertubuhan Rumah Amal Chahaya, Tengku Ampuan Rahima, Masjid Al Hidayah, Taman Sukun, Asas Jaya, Penang, Bukit Martazam, Penang Malaysia. Additionally, at Madrasah Tahfiz Darul Aqsa, Penang, Malaysia. In the evening, a discussion and prayer meeting about the late's career will be held at Masjid Al Khair Bukit Bintang Bangladesh Mosque, Kuala Lumpur. In addition, special prayer and Dua will be held at different Madrasha and Mosque.

Special prayers and munajat will be held at various mosques, including the Sahabi Mosque in Yud Park, Guangzhou City, China; the Pushchen Songuri Mosque in Seoul, South Korea; the Angullia Jamia Mosque in Singapore; and the Salman Mosque in the Maldives.

Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan Memorial Museum has been established. The museum displays memorabilia from the late's distinguished and glorious career.

Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan Memorial Trust will be established for cardiovascular research, scientific innovation and social service, and the Institute of Preventive Cardiology and Research will be established to create awareness among the public about heart disease and provide its treatment. Initiatives will be taken to establish it in his birthplace Sylhet. Initiatives will also be taken to provide free treatment to the needy and helpless patients in this institution.
